About the Artist
Sheron Davis graduated in 1972 from Penn State University with a BA in Art. Since then she has worked in various art fields including painting, photography, teaching, gallery owner, and stained/fused glass. Her inspiration comes from the natural world around us, especially the oceans, rivers, lakes, and beaches. In her glass work you’ll see the flowing lines of waves and waterfalls. In her paintings you’ll see the designs, motions, and play of light on water.
To make her stained glass pieces she uses the copper foil method and plating technique. This enables her to achieve an infinite variety of shape, design & color. She does not use patterns, so no two pieces are ever exactly the same, although they may be similar. First she selects the colors, shells, geodes, or any other components of the piece. Next she cuts the shapes and arranges the design. Then a refined cutting is done, after which each glass piece is ground and then wrapped with copper foil. Finally the piece is soldered together and cleaned.
Stained glass is best hung in a window because as the sun crosses the sky and the light changes during the day, the glass will continue to look different with the differing amounts of light and shade coming through. At night an equally pleasing and yet still different piece of art is revealed. It can also be hung in front of large mirrors, in pass ways, on porches, or even against walls.
In her paintings Sheron strives to capture the peace and tranquility gazing at large bodies of water can bring. She used to live by a large river and could watch the sunset in the evenings over the water. It is an amazingly soul-satisfying activity! So in her paintings she tries to bring the viewer to a higher spiritual level by involving them in the beauty of their natural surroundings. She photographs the play of light on water in all its forms and then paints from these, often combining two or more. Sometimes she paints from memory or drawings. She uses the two mediums of acrylics and oils, and sometimes incorporates iridescent or dichroic glass for added dimension.
Currently she travels the country displaying her work in juried art shows, usually outdoors. Her glass works have won several awards and are or have been in the following galleries.
